AGE SPOTS

AGE SPOTS

Age spots may look a little bit like freckles, but they aren’t. While freckles are natural properties of some people’s skin, age spots appear in response to sun damage.

Age spots (also called liver spots) are areas of hyperpigmentation that appear on the hands or face as we age. They tend to be relatively small, flat, and darker than surrounding skin, and show up in places that are regularly exposed to the sun.

While age spots are more common in people over the age of fifty, they can and do appear on younger people who spend a lot of unprotected time in the sun. They can form on any type of skin but are more prevalent for people whose skin is very fair and prone to sunburns.

Most people notice age spots first on their hands and face. But they also commonly appear on the back, arms, shoulders, and chest. In the United States, they form more frequently on the left side of the body because of sun exposure while driving.

Age spots are not usually harmful or dangerous. But regular skin checks are wise for people with age spots since sun damage can also cause skin cancer.

So despite their name, age spots are actually sun damage. As such, they can be prevented by having a good sun protection regimen when you’re young.

Benefits of Treatment

But for a lot of us, the damage was done years ago and the question now is how to fix it. At U Wellness Medspa we use Microneedling & CO2 technology to decrease the pigmentation and help the spots fade while also producing softer, smoother skin.

Our innovative combination of traditional microneedling and radio frequency delivered thermal energy. It is a safe, FDA-approved procedure that results in very little discomfort or downtime. The procedure stimulates the body to produce collagen, the substance that makes young skin firm and smooth. It’s a targeted treatment that is easily adapted for skin areas of any size.

Tetra is a CO2 laser that offers fully customizable skin resurfacing treatments that eliminate signs of aging like wrinkles, sunspots, uneven texture and age spots for dramatically smoother, brighter, younger-looking skin.
